BLOB'S PARK
When we first started teaching polka classes in 1976, we taught from 1-3 nights per week at different locations in the Maryland area. Later, we decided to consolidate all of our Maryland classes at Blob's Park, Jessup, MD. Blob's Park, a German Bavarian Dance Hall and Restaurant from 1933-2014, seated approximately 1,000 people and was located between the cities of Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC. Blob's was open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with live polka entertainment featuring many of the nations top polka bands. Blob's also featured a wide variety of other types of music for your dancing and listening pleasure.
Our first 8-week dance class program at Blob's started on October 6, 1976, with over 600 students registered to take lessons. During the next three years at Blob's, we offered three 8-week series of classes per year, and still registered between 500-600 students per class.
During our early years at Blob's, we were the featured hosts on "Everybody's Dancing", a one-hour feature on Comcast Cable TV, promoting Blob's lively entertainment including: Polka, Country, Jazz, Ballroom, Swing, and Rock n' Roll music.
Blob's Park was voted as the "Best Place To Polka" in Maryland by Baltimore Magazine and has been nationally televised on CNN News, Good Morning America and had featured articles many times in the Baltimore and Washington Newspapers. Blob's featured a 2,500 square foot wooden dance floor with seating capacity for nearly 1,000 people, an outside Pavilion, a lighted parking lot, plus lots of great German/American food with full Bar and Restaurant facilities.
